Roma Caput Mundi

Is a Latin phrase taken to mean “Rome capital of the world“. It is not easy to say something new about Rome. Perhaps the easiest thing to say is: visit it. It may seem trivial, but many Italians have traveled the world without ever setting foot in Rome. Contrary to millions of tourists who dream a whole life to visit the Eternal City, many Italians have a very superficial knowledge of Rome if not completely absent.

The visit of Rome should start from the Fori Imperiali, in particular from the marble slabs hung on the wall just halfway, just before arriving at the Colosseum. Illustrate the rise of Rome from the first century before Christ, when this small and unknown town in central Italy began the conquest of the world, arriving to possess territories that no other country would ever have had. A few steps and you arrive at the Colosseum, the place where the rich and strong Rome celebrated its victories and gave glory to the sovereigns with shows of wild beasts fighting against gladiators. From here it is easy to return to contemporary Rome. After passing Piazza Venezia with the majestic Altare della Patria, you enter the shopping streets: Via del Corso, where tourists and Romans cross each other, and from here in the streets of the most exclusive boutiques: Via di Ripetta, Via del Babuino, Via Frattina. Also from Via del Corso, in a few minutes, you get to some of the most beautiful places in Rome: the Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon, one of the most imitated and best-preserved monuments of Ancient Rome. From the Pantheon, a must a stop is Piazza Navona, a splendid rectangular square, a masterpiece of Roman Baroque, always loved by artists, Romans, and tourists.

One can not speak of Rome without thinking of this city as the center of Christianity. Even if you want, you can not: there is not only the “Cupolone” of San Pietro to remember it. There are San Giovanni in Laterano, Santa Maria del Popolo and a thousand other churches to remember that Peter, the first Pope, and apostle died here, and since then Rome is the universal symbol of the most followed religion in the world.
