Mu Cang Chai is a mountainous district of Yen Bai province, about 280 km from Hanoi, in the north of the country.
It is considered the capital of the rice fields for the beauty of the landscape. It is one of the largest granaries of Vietnam and homes the largest and most picturesque rice fields of Asia.

Sapa, the most popular destination for tourists
La Pan Tan and Che Cu Nha are two other places in Vietnam where you can admire the most beautiful terraces. They are little known by mass tourism, which usually stops at the most accessible Sapa. Sapa is a small town in North Vietnam near the border with China, known for hosting small traditional villages that are home to several ethnic minorities. Here tourism is growing fast and thousands of visitors come to admire the rice fields in Sapa.
Tea plantations
Rice fields in Sapa are gradually being replaced by tea plantations and it is not uncommon to observe areas where the valley is planted with rice, while the sides of the hills are covered by tea plants whose leaves are cyclically gathered from farmers.
