The Kuna people once occupied the central region of what is now Panama. Today, they live in three politically autonomous reservations in Panama and a few cities scattered between this country and Colombia. Most of the population live on the San Blas Islands in the community known as Kuna Yala. This fascinating tribal society is famous for their bright colored molas, a type of dress that Kuna women typically wear. They retain many of their ancestors’ traditions, and have their own customs and laws.
