Dragons exist, and not just in Game of Thrones. With a tail as long as its body, the Komodo Dragon of Indonesia is the world’s largest lizard. Male Komodos can grow up to 10 feet long and weigh up to 300 pounds! These massive creatures live on the Island of Komodo in Indonesia as well as surrounding islands. The inspiration for King Kong, Komodos are venomous due to the amount of bacteria in their mouths and can take down large animals such as deer. They can also run 12 miles an hour! Though they don’t breathe fire – thankfully. Komodo dragons may be seen within Komodo National Park which was established in 1980 to conserve these lizards.
