Way back in the year 1777, Frederick the Great, the King of Prussia, banned coffee because he was convinced that it was interfering with the sale of beer. His manifesto stated, “It is disgusting to notice the increase in the quantity of coffee used by my subjects and the like amount of money that goes out of the country in consequence.” Needless to say, his efforts didn’t last long.
